    THE HISTORY OF WHITTNAUER WATCHES:

The Wittnauer Watch Company, founded in 1885 by Albert Wittnauer, is known for its durable and reliable timepieces, gaining recognition among navigators, explorers, and aviators.

    Founding and Early Years

Establishment: The company was founded in 1885 in New Rochelle, New York, by Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer. He initially worked for his brother-in-law, Eugene Robert, who imported Swiss watches.

Recognizing a market for affordable yet high-quality Swiss watches, Albert established the Wittnauer brand in 1888 after taking over Robert's company.

    First Products:

The first line of Wittnauer watches was crafted around 1880, and the brand quickly gained popularity for its reliability and precision, appealing to both scientific and private sectors.

    Growth and Innovations:

Reputation: Wittnauer watches became known for their durability, often used by navigators, explorers, and even astronauts. The company was involved in early aviation and navigation tests, contributing to its reputation for reliability.

    Leadership:

After the death of the last Wittnauer brother in 1916, their sister Martha Wittnauer became the first female CEO of a watch company, leading the brand until 1936.
Under her leadership, Wittnauer expanded its involvement in the aviation industry and gained recognition from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

    Acquisition and Changes:

In 1936, the Wittnauer family sold the company, and it became part of the Longines-Wittnauer Company.

This marked a significant shift in the brand's direction, as it transitioned from family ownership to corporate management.

    Legacy:

Wittnauer watches have been worn by notable figures, including astronauts and aviators, solidifying their place in history.
The brand is remembered for its contributions to the watch industry and its commitment to quality and innovation.

    Conclusion:

The Wittnauer Watch Company has a rich history characterized by innovation, quality, and a commitment to serving the needs of explorers and adventurers.
From its humble beginnings to its recognition in the watch industry, Wittnauer remains a significant name in horology.
