This vintage 1976 Timex Marlin with a retro telephone dial is a unique find that has become very scarce in the past several years, especially in this condition!
The excellent rolled gold plated case measures 1.35" X 1.44", excluding cushion crown and lugs, surrounds a deep black dial, black and gold hour and minute hands, a telephone dial with gold outlined 1-12 numbers, with exception of a date window at 3 o'clock and an adjacent window with the day of the week.
Although is is 49 years old, it sets and winds as it should, is running well and keeping good time. As John Cameron Swayze told us decades ago, "Timex, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking."
Please note: If you have arthritis in your hands, as I have, this watch can be a bit difficult to wind as is the case of all of these models. I manage to wind it by just rotating the crown against the bottom with my finger.
It has a snap-down stainless steel back and has been fitted with a new black, genuine leather embossed and stitched 2-piece strap with gold buckle.
STOCK CODE: T-15
ABOUT THE TIMEX WATCH COMPANY:
Timex has a long history rooted in Waterbury, Connecticut, beginning with the Waterbury Clock Company in 1854. The company's initial success stemmed from producing affordable, brass-movement clocks and watches that mimicked more expensive European designs. A key moment was the introduction of the "Yankee" pocket watch, marketed as the "dollar watch," which became incredibly popular due to its low price and accessibility. In 1944, the company transitioned to the United States Time Corporation, and later, in 1950, the Timex brand was launched. Timex gained widespread recognition for its affordable, durable watches and iconic "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking" slogan.
